Project Statement
Drawing on the sacred and alien histories of light, the perfect circle evokes dual images of heavenly portals and extraterrestrial landing sites. Solar lights are in a direct transactional relationship with their surroundings, employed to illuminate a safe path. Serving as a calling card for divine or alien intervention, this simple installation responds to the harm humans have inflicted on the environment, others, and themselves, forfeiting our assumed earthly stewardship through demonstrated carelessness. As a meditative shape, this circular border acts as a place of contemplation, asking viewers to consider their own culpability in such a forfeiture.
